Residents in Rome are fed up with sharing their city with thousands of starlings.
So the local council have called in the bird-busters.
Dressed in white suits and armed with megaphones, the group scare the birds off with the sound of their own distress calls.
시내를 뒤덮은 수천 마리의 찌르레기 떼에 로마 시민들은 질릴 대로 질려 버렸습니다.
결국 시당국은 새쫓기 전문가들을 불렀습니다.
흰색 작업복을 입고 메가폰으로 무장한 이들은 새들이 듣기 거북해하는 소리를 내면서 새떼를 쫓아내고 있습니다.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) BIRD SCARER, FABRIZIO ZANI, SAYING:
"With this megaphone we emit starling alarm sounds and we make them go away so they do not infest the trees."

“이 메가폰으로 새들에게 위험을 알리는 소리를 내어 나무를 오염시키지 못하도록 쫓아내는 작업을 하고 있습니다.”

The starlings have made the city their winter home.
Thousands can be seen above the landmark sites, often leaving their calling card on statues and vehicles.
It can also be a health risk.
찌르레기들은 도시에서 겨울을 납니다. 수천 마리의 새들이 로마를 뒤덮고, 길거리의 자동차나 동상에는 새들의 분비물이 가득합니다. 때문에 전염병이 생길 위험도 있습니다.

(SOUNDBITE) (Italian) GIOVANNI ALBARELLA, MEMBER OF LIPU, ITALIAN LEAGUE FOR THE PROTECTION OF BIRDS, SAYING:
"Such a high concentration of these birds creates problems because of the guano that is produced by the animals while they are resting and over night. This either falls on people whilst they are walking or on cars parked on the road or it falls on the ground and if it is raining becomes slippery like soap."

“이처럼 새들이 집중적으로 서식하면 새들이 쉬거나 잠을 잘 때 배설하는 분뇨로 많은 문제가 생겨납니다. 걸어가는 사람들의 머리 위에 떨어지기도 하고, 거리에 주차해 놓은 자동차 위에 쌓이기도 하고, 땅바닥에 남기도 하죠. 비라도 내리면 이렇게 쌓인 새들의 분뇨가 비누처럼 미끌미끌하게 변합니다.”

The birds have also forced at least one plane to make an emergency landing.
A Ryanair flight collided with a flock of them as it approached the city's Ciampino airport.
According to the Italian League for the Protection of Birds the starling population can reach up to five million.
With the council in a flap about ridding the city of its feathery visitors the bird-busters certainly have their work cut out.
새떼 때문에 비행기가 비상착륙하는 사태가 벌어지기도 했습니다.
라이언에어 소속 여객기가 로마 치암피노 공항에 착륙하는 도중 새들과 충돌한 것입니다.
이탈리아 조류보호단체연합의 자료에 따르면, 로마의 찌르레기 수는 500만 마리에 이르는 것으로 추산됩니다.
